AUA Award Announcements: Congratulations!
2021 AUA Award Winners
Connie Merriman, 2021 Administrator of the Year
Dr. Connie Merriman is Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Accreditation Manager for the Strome College of Business. She joined Old Dominion University is 1998 as a classified staff member and completed her Master of Public Administration in 2005 and PhD in Higher Education Administration in 2010, both from ODU. In 2005, she became an AP faculty member in the Strome College of Business, where she leads numerous undergraduate student success initiatives, serves as accreditation manager and assessment coordinator, and leads the College's Office of Undergraduate Advising. As the University's Sam Walton Fellow, she serves as advisor to the Old Dominion University Enactus team. Enactus is an international student organization committed to improving the lives of others through sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives. She also serves as the Faculty Advisor for Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and is Treasurer of the ODU Chapter 200 of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Additionally, she teaches classes in leadership, cultural competence, and social entrepreneurship at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Kasie Reyes, 2021 Monarch Professional Award
Kasie Reyes is Deputy Director for the Center of Global Engagement/VISA and advises international students, faculty, and staff at Old Dominion University on immigration and visa issues. She graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a BA in International Affairs, and from Old Dominion University with an MA in Humanities. She was recently appointed the Student Regulatory Ombudsman for the mid-Eastern region (Region VIII) for NAFSA, a national professional organization for International Educators.
2020 AUA Award Winners
Scott Harrison, 2020 Administrator of the Year
Scott Harrison is the Associate Vice President for Administration in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services. He received his Bachelor's from Salisbury University in Business Administration and Psychology, and his Master's in Psychology and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Old Dominion University. He has work at Old Dominion University full-time in various capacities for 32 years.
Joe Ritchie, 2020 Monarch Professional Award
Joe Ritchie joined Old Dominion University in 2012 as the Director of First Year Student Success. He is responsible for coordinating the Early Alert Grading Process, the UNIV 110 Academic Success Course, First Class and advises the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society for freshmen. Prior to arriving to ODU, he was the Director of First Year Experience at the University of Central Florida where he oversaw orientation, parent programming, welcome week, a first-year experience course and an out-of-state living-learning community. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana University of PA earning degrees in Music Performance and Student Affairs in Higher Education respectively. At ODU, he serves as the faculty advisor for both Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternities, and for several years was the co-chair of the Safe Space Committee.
